I second that wayne. The fact of the matter is as much as the Dead were/are the band for me and without equal, in later years they just weren't experimenting and taking risks. When Phil was doing those shows they had more fire and life than anything the Dead had done in their rut for a LONG time. Just look at the setlists alone then listen and the playing lives up to the setlists.

sorry, i'm just too into jerry, i think it's unhealthy, acquiring shows has become my focus in life. listening to them, my duty. i haven't even heard any jgb shows, so what do i know. they might as well play, they're really old now, and they should take advantage of the opportunities to play the music of the grateful dead while they still can.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty much where you're at too. I don't listen to any of the very few post GD shows I have ( TOO, Ratdog, Phil )but this Phil line is an exception for me. As is the other one he did with Dave Nelson band. To me there's no denying how incredible and on this line up with Trey and Page were. Actually Kimock is probably the real factor for me because everything Phil's done since has left me flat. Like you I only collect and listen to Jer.
Curious - haven't heard any JGB? Are you talking the REAL JGB, or this recreation thing which makes no sense to me ( well it makes sense but I don't like it )

I love the Dead and always will. Thought Phish the moost over indulgent and egomaniacal band to come down the pike.
But...........The Phil shows with Trey are unreal. I have heard about every Phil show available and the ones with Trey are amped up from start to finish. Shoot, the show from Tweeter in o6, the Glens Falls 07 show....dude you are just missing the boat.

i guess i mean all his solo stuff. i've heard people talk about it, but i don't have any shows or anything. i do have the bluegrass stuff, like old and in the way, and some garcia/grisman stuff. know a good show for me to start out with? preferrably from the 70's?
